Artist Statement
A multidisciplinary conceptual artist, my practice explores human connection, identity and behaviour. Working across installation, digital, sculpture, print and drawing, I use form and structure to interpret how we engage with the world; examining the invisible social, cultural and biological forces that shape our experience.
Central to my work is a meditative process of questioning, drawing, cutting and making, leading to a personal visual language, which often takes the form of nets, strong yet permeable structures that symbolise the balance between societal constraints and personal fluidity. These represent connection but also the intricate web of influences that define us. Their permeability reflects the potential for both transformation and resistance within the constructs that shape our lives.
As a first-generation Australian of Indian heritage, my work often addresses themes of cultural identity and assimilation. This personal narrative intersects with broader themes of colonisation and migration. I aim to uncover the unseen forces, whether inherited, imposed or self-imposed that influence us and explores how we navigate and reshape these influences.
Ultimately, my work invites reflection on what shapes us, the unseen threads influencing our identities, and the potential for reimagining these to carve our own paths.
